Meeting held January 28, 2010

A meeting of the IAOP New England Chapter, chaired by Foley & Lardner, John Hancock Financial Services and Insigma HengTian Software Ltd was held on January 28 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at the Boston University School of Management at 595 Commonwealth Avenue, 4th Floor, Boston, MA.

3:45 pm-4:00 pm: Case Study: “Putting PR and Social Media to Work to Tell the Outsourcing Story”

Outsourcers can significantly increase their visibility within the IT services/outsourcing community by executing integrated public relations programs blending traditional PR strategies with today’s social media relations opportunities. Topaz Partners, a leader in technology PR and social media, will present a case study on how integrated public relations has successfully generated awareness for one of their outsourcing clients, allowing them to “influence the influencers.” The session will also include a review of PR and social media trends for 2010, providing insights to allow you to take advantage of this valuable communications channel for the outsourcing industry.

Paula Slotkin, Topaz Partners

4:00 pm-4:15 pm: BU/IAOP Collaboration

Kathleen Foley Curley, Research Professor, Boston University School of Management

Elizabeth Nassar, Director of Executive Education, Boston University

4:15 pm-5:15 pm: “Expanding the Sourcing Frontier: Leveraging Knowledge Services in a Global Organization”

As firms are looking to capture meaningful and incremental value from their off-shoring and outsourcing relationships, beyond just cost arbitrage, many are looking for access to “Knowledge Services”. Remotely delivering domain specific knowledge services has increasingly become an accepted practice as sourcing models have matured. However, determining which core processes to outsource and how to align with strategic initiatives without losing control is still a challenge. As the global operating model transforms from a vendors/captives based model to a COEs/Hubs based model, the boundary between the firm and 3rd Party is evolving. This panel will provide insights across the spectrum of knowledge services on how customers are driving more value from hybrid sourcing models and discuss ways that organizations can leverage these opportunities to support their global initiatives.

Moderator: Bob Williams, Chairman, Insigma HengTian Software Ltd.

Panelists will include:

Kleber Gallardo, CEO, Alivia Capital LLC

Elizabeth Grealy, CEO, Grealy Globalization

Ken Miller, Wipro

5:15 pm-5:30 pm:

Meeting held Thursday, April 10:

The latest meeting of the IAOP Boston Chapter was held on Thursday, April 10, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  This meeting was hosted by Matthew Karlyn of Foley & Lardner LLP and held at their offices: 111 Huntington Avenue, 26th floor, Boston. It included a continental breakfast and a networking session.

A roundtable discussion regarding: “Accelerating Growth through Outsourcing and Offshoring"  was led by Rob Teplansky of Expense Management Solutions, Inc with guest speakers Matthew Marx, Technology Director at Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board (PRIM), and Karl Boone, Consultant from PA Consulting Group.  Following is a snapshot of the presentation that was provided:

For many financial institutions organic growth is their top priority.  They want to build internal capabilities to grow revenue and market share.  But how do they quickly develop these capabilities while minimizing cost increases?

Today, many financial institutions are outsourcing and offshoring with an eye to:  maintain flexible cost structures; create scalable capabilities that respond to changing business dynamics; offer their internal staff mobility and growth opportunities while backfilling; audition new partners and staff; and externalize routine and administrative activities.

This discussion covered: How leading financial institutions today are using these management approaches to have positive impact on their business; how they handle the myriad challenges with security, privacy, management control, and still deliver value; how they deal with the legacy of billions of dollars worth of outsourcing contracts that are approaching renewal; and much more!
